Which plants are toxic to cats and dogs?
Every one of our 590 houseplant and garden plant profiles in one table: what the profile itself says about toxicity, for cats and for dogs separately, with the sentence it says it in and a link to the full profile. Type a plant name, or filter by toxic, non-toxic and unclear.
A reading guide, not a diagnosis. This table summarises what our own plant profiles write about toxicity, and the profiles were written from the ASPCA and Pet Poison Helpline lists (linked below). We give no amounts and describe no treatment. If your pet has chewed a plant, call your vet or an emergency clinic now, with the plant's name or a photo. Where a profile makes no clear statement the plant is listed as unclear, never as "safe".

No plant matches this filter. A plant that is not in the list simply has no profile here yet - that does not make it safe.
📐 Where the verdicts come from
Every Plantvale profile has a "Toxicity & Safety" section. When the site is built, that section is read for each profile and sorted by fixed rules, sentence by sentence: if a sentence calls the plant toxic or dangerous, the row says "toxic" (with "mildly" or "highly" only when the profile says so); negated warnings ("not toxic", "no poisoning risk") do not count, and spines or sap that irritates skin are not toxicity. If a sentence explicitly calls the plant non-toxic or pet-safe, the row says "non-toxic"; anything else is "unclear". The cats and dogs columns follow the sentences that name the species - so a daylily can read "non-toxic" for dogs and "toxic" for cats; a species that is never named stays a question mark. The German twin of this page reads the same English section, so the two languages never give different answers.
Three honest caveats. First, "non-toxic" means the reference lists know of no poisoning - not that eating the plant is fine; any plant can cause vomiting, and fertiliser, sprays or vase water are a separate question. Second, the reference lists are American (ASPCA, Pet Poison Helpline) because no other public list is as complete. Third, the table only knows the plants we have profiles for - a plant missing here is not thereby safe.
If you want the short safe list instead, see pet-safe houseplants, which only includes plants with an explicit "non-toxic" in their profile.
